Conner's rookie year was 4th-round depth — 46 combined tackles, mostly on special teams. By 2024 he had won a starting slot/safety hybrid role (93 tackles, 4 PD, 2 INT), and 2025 was the breakout: 115 combined tackles in 17 games, with multi-positional usage that turned him into Spagnuolo's chess piece.

More than doubling tackles year over year (46 → 93 → 115) on a defense already stacked with Bolton, McDuffie, and Reid is unusual — most rookies in KC's system top out as situational. Conner played his way past that ceiling.

He has a Super Bowl ring before he has a Pro Bowl — drafted to a Chiefs dynasty.

Conner was drafted by Kansas City in April 2023 and won Super Bowl LVIII as a rookie — a 25-3 overtime win against the 49ers where he saw rotational snaps. He returned for a second SB appearance in 2024 (the Eagles loss in SB LIX), making it two Super Bowl trips in his first two seasons.

Despite the team success, his individual recognition is still ahead of him — no Pro Bowl yet through 2025. The ring-before-Pro-Bowl path is one of the rarest in the league and almost exclusive to Reid-era Chiefs role players.

Versatility: tackles, sacks (2 per year), and pass rush snaps from the slot — a true positionless DB.

Conner pass-rush production

Conner isn't your standard 2-deep safety. Spagnuolo uses him as a slot blitzer and box defender, and the production matches: back-to-back seasons with 2 sacks and 5 QB hits is unusual for a non-pass-rushing DB. Add 7 TFL in 2024 and you have a player credited as a defender on rushing plays at the line — work most DBs never see.

In 2025 his role shifted slightly toward coverage/tackle duty (115 tackles, down from 7 TFL to 4), but the QB-pressure floor stayed.

115 tackles in 2025 — top-25 in the entire NFL, in a Spagnuolo defense that spreads work around.

Comparison

League-leading LBs in 2025 (Jordyn Brooks 180, Jack Campbell 174) had every-down roles in defenses built around stack-tackling. Conner's 115 came from a DB position in a Spagnuolo scheme that distributes work — the same defense in which Nick Bolton finished with 150.

For a DB to clear 110 combined tackles is a top-of-the-position number. In Chiefs history, that's Tyrann Mathieu / Justin Reid territory.

4 career INTs, 7 career PD — and a rising pick rate as the role grows.

Milestone

Conner's coverage numbers are still building: 4 career INTs (1-2-1 by season), 7 career PDs, 5 career FF. The arc points up — 2024's 2 INT, 4 PD was his career-best ball production season, and the role he played in 2025 (more box, more tackling) traded coverage opportunities for run-game impact.

At 25 years old entering his 4th season, the next contract argument is whether 2024 (ball production) or 2025 (tackle volume) is the truer profile. KC's answer will shape whether he's a long-term core piece or rotational complement.
