Williams went undrafted out of UAB in 2018 and bounced around three practice squads before sticking with the Rams in 2019. The 2020 breakout (41 tackles, 16 PDs, 4 INTs in 17 games as a starter) included a pick-six in the Wild Card game vs Seattle — a moment that turned him into a $30M free agent two years later.

After two seasons in Jacksonville, the Rams brought him home in 2024.

85 career pass defenses — top-5 among DBs since 2020.

Rare

Williams has piled up 85 career pass defenses across 105 games — a rate of 0.81 per game. Few active cornerbacks match that pace.

Four seasons of double-digit PDs (16, 12, 17, 19 from 2020-23) and three years of 15+ PDs in a four-year span. The 2023 season alone (19 PDs) was the top mark among all Jaguars defenders that year.

Two stops, two different rates — Williams averaged 19 PDs/yr in JAX, 12 PDs/yr with the Rams.

The Jacksonville years produced his highest PD-per-game rate (1.00 PDs/gm), in part because the Jaguars secondary was so leaky that opposing QBs threw his way relentlessly.

His return to LA has been more efficient but lower-volume — 0.63 PDs/gm in his second Rams stint vs 0.76 in his first. That's consistent with the Rams targeting him less now that he's the established veteran.

2021 Rams: 66 tackles in 18 games — career high, Super Bowl LVI winner.

Milestone

The 2021 Super Bowl year produced Williams' career-best tackle volume: 66 tackles across 18 games (regular season + playoffs), working as the Rams' outside CB across from Jalen Ramsey.

Williams was on the field for every defensive snap of Super Bowl LVI — the 24-22 win over Cincinnati that gave him a championship ring before his age-29 free-agent year. The combination of ring + production produced a 3-year, $30M deal from Jacksonville the next March.

5'9" 187 — undersized even for a slot, but covers like an outside CB.

Comparison

Williams is listed at 5'9" and 187 pounds, which would put most modern corners in the slot exclusively. But his career has been split roughly 70% outside / 30% slot, including all of his Rams snaps in both stints.

The production speaks for itself — 245 career tackles and 85 PDs over 7 seasons — but the physical profile is what makes him an interesting trade target if the Rams ever decide to move on. A short, fast corner with a track record of takeaways is the exact thing rebuilding teams pay up for.
