Chiefs @ Seahawks
2026 Wk 7 · SEA 20, KC 3
Seattle held Mahomes without a touchdown and Kenneth Walker III to 36 yards in his return.
Kenneth Walker III ran for 36 yards in his return to Seattle, 34 below his previous low as a Chief
ComparisonWalker came in averaging 6.27 yards a carry for Kansas City, with four 100-yard games in five appearances. Against his old team he had 14 carries for 36 yards, 2.57 a carry, and no touchdown. His previous low this season was 70 yards against Miami. Seattle has now gone 36 straight games, playoffs included, without allowing a 100-yard rusher; the last one was James Cook in Week 8 of 2024.

Why it matters. Walker's first five games were built on volume, 19 to 24 carries a game, and Kansas City could not give him that here: the Chiefs ran 16 times in total and trailed by 10 at halftime. The game script and Seattle's run defense fed each other, and Walker finished with his fewest carries and yards of the season. It also extended a Seattle run that now covers 36 games.
Butker missed from 58 and 45, the second at 13-3 with 8:38 left
TrendSeattle led 10-0 at halftime, and the score could have been closer. Mahomes threw an interception at the Seattle 34 with the Chiefs down 3-0, and Seattle drove for Sam Darnold's 28-yard touchdown to Jaxon Smith-Njigba. On the next Seattle drive Darnold was intercepted by N.Williams on second-and-3 from the Kansas City 3, and the 65-yard return set up a 58-yard Butker try on the final play of the half that fell short. At 13-3 with 8:38 left, Butker missed from 45, wide right, and Emanuel Wilson's 21-yard touchdown run closed it.

Butker games with 2 or more missed field goals
| Season | Game | Made | Missed | Missed from |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2018 | BAL @ KC | 2 | 2 | 51, 43 |
| 2026 | KC @ SEA | 1 | 2 | 58, 45 |
Why it matters. The 45-yard miss is the swing play of the second half: a make makes it 13-6 with more than eight minutes left, a one-score game. Butker has now missed two field goals in a game twice in the 147 games in which he has tried one. With the offense producing no touchdowns, Kansas City needed every kick, and it got one of three.
Seattle converted 11 of 16 third downs; Kansas City converted 3 of 11
SplitSeattle ran 69 pass and run plays to Kansas City's 50 and gained 410 yards to 213. The difference started on third down: Seattle kept drives alive on 11 of 16, and Kansas City converted 3 of 11. Seattle was more efficient in both halves, and its pass game carried it, at +0.434 EPA per dropback against Kansas City's -0.178.
This game, both offenses (pass and run plays)
| Team | Plays | Yards | First downs | 3rd down | Pass EPA/play | Run EPA/play |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SEA | 69 | 410 | 24 | 11 of 16 | +0.434 | -0.034 |
| KC | 50 | 213 | 11 | 3 of 11 | -0.178 | +0.050 |
By half
| Team | Half | Plays | EPA/play | Yards | Success rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SEA | 1st | 39 | +0.183 | 251 | 51.3% |
| SEA | 2nd | 30 | +0.120 | 159 | 43.3% |
| KC | 1st | 24 | -0.183 | 96 | 37.5% |
| KC | 2nd | 26 | -0.033 | 117 | 34.6% |
Why it matters. Third down is where the plays gap came from: 11 Seattle conversions meant 11 extra sets of downs, and Kansas City's 8 failures handed the ball back. Seattle's run game was below zero on EPA, but 41 carries still ran clock. Kansas City never had a half with a success rate above 37.5%, so even its better stretch after halftime produced only one field goal.
Smith-Njigba's fifth 150-yard game since 2024, tied with Chase and Nacua for the most
MilestoneJaxon Smith-Njigba caught 9 of 12 targets for 150 yards, including the 28-yard touchdown that made it 10-0, which was first ruled out of bounds at the 1 and reversed on review. It is his second 150-yard game of 2026 and his fifth in the regular season since 2024, tied with Ja'Marr Chase and Puka Nacua for the most in that span. He has 867 receiving yards through seven games.

|---|---|
| Ja'Marr Chase | 5 |
| Jaxon Smith-Njigba | 5 |
| Puka Nacua | 5 |
| Amon-Ra St. Brown | 4 |

Smith-Njigba's 150-yard games
| Season | Week | Opponent | Rec | Targets | Yards | TD |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 9 | LA | 7 | 13 | 180 | 2 |
| 2025 | 6 | JAX | 8 | 13 | 162 | 1 |
| 2025 | 12 | TEN | 8 | 10 | 167 | 2 |
| 2026 | 2 | ARI | 9 | 11 | 155 | 3 |
| 2026 | 7 | KC | 9 | 12 | 150 | 1 |
Why it matters. Smith-Njigba's season yardage has climbed from 628 as a rookie to 1,130 and then 1,793, and 867 through seven games keeps him well above that pace. Against Kansas City he was the whole passing plan: 12 of Darnold's 28 throws went his way, and he caught 150 of the 257 passing yards. Two 150-yard games in seven weeks is the same number he had in all of 2025.
Seattle's biggest win over Kansas City since 1999, and the Chiefs' lowest score in the series
MilestoneThe two teams have met 13 times since 1999. Seattle's previous largest margin was 12 points, 31-19 in 1999, and the fewest points either side had scored was Seattle's 7 in 2001. Kansas City still leads the series 7-6 over that span, but Seattle has won two of the last three meetings.

Why it matters. This series now comes around once every four years, so each meeting tends to catch both teams in a different era. Most of the earlier games were close, ten of 12 decided by 12 points or fewer. A 17-point Seattle win with Kansas City held to a field goal stands apart from that history.
