Game preview
Panthers @ Eagles
Week 6 · 2026
Nick Sirianni's Eagles have never lost four straight, and Carolina arrives scoring 30 a game.
Sirianni's Eagles have never lost four straight. Carolina arrives scoring 30.
StorylinePhiladelphia has lost three in a row, to Chicago, the Rams and Jacksonville, and scored 44 points across the three. Nick Sirianni's Eagles have stood at three straight regular season losses three times before, in 2021, 2023 and 2025, and won the next game every time; the first of those wins was 21 to 18 in Carolina in Week 5 of 2021. The franchise has not lost four straight regular season games since Weeks 10 to 13 of 2020, under Doug Pederson. The Panthers come off their bye at 2 and 2, scoring 30.3 points a game, fourth in the league, after 18.3 and 27th in 2025, and Bryce Young leads all passers at 317.0 yards a game. The Eagles score 18.4, 29th, after 22.3 and 19th last season. The question the rest of the column answers is whether an offense with 44 points in three weeks can keep pace with one that put 32 on Detroit the last time it played.

Why it matters. Three straight losses has been the floor of the Sirianni era: every previous streak stopped at three, and the first one stopped against Carolina. What makes this one different is the opponent's form. The 2021 Panthers were a team the Eagles could outscore; these Panthers are fourth in points per game and have the league's passing yards per game leader, while Philadelphia is 29th in scoring. Both offenses have flipped their 2025 rank, Carolina from 27th to fourth in scoring and the Eagles from 19th to 29th, and that flip is the backdrop for every collision below.
Bryce Young leads the league in yards per game. The Eagles have six sacks.
What to watchCarolina's passing game is why the Panthers score. Young has 1268 passing yards in four games, 317.0 a game, first among passers with three or more games of 10 or more attempts, and the second most by a Panthers passer through four team games since 2003, behind Cam Newton's 1386 in 2011. Carolina is sixth in expected points per dropback at plus 0.208, after minus 0.050 and 25th in 2025, and posted plus 0.466 against Detroit in Week 4, third of the week. The Eagles' pass defense was fifth in 2025 at minus 0.124 and is 25th at plus 0.121, and its rush has six sacks on 185 dropbacks, 3.2 percent, third lowest in the league, after 7.2 percent and 13th last season. Carolina gives up sacks on 5.8 percent of dropbacks, 13th. If Young is sacked on one of Carolina's first two drives, the 2025 Eagles pass defense has shown up; if he is throwing from a clean pocket into the second quarter, Philadelphia is chasing again.

Why it matters. This is the clearest gap between the two teams and their 2025 selves. Carolina's passing game was 25th last season and is sixth, with the league's yards per game leader; Philadelphia's pass defense was fifth and is 25th, and the rush that produced 42 sacks in 2025 has six. A quarterback who has thrown 48 times in a game this season, against a defense that rarely gets home, is the matchup most likely to decide whether Carolina reaches its scoring average. If the Eagles cannot pressure Young, their own offense has to score more than it has in any game of the losing streak.
One big play in 59 snaps at Jacksonville. Carolina's defense is the next test.
What to watchThe Eagles' offense has stopped producing chunks. Philadelphia has 18 explosive plays in five games, passes of 20 yards or more and runs of 10 or more, 6.3 percent of its plays, 31st of 32, after 9.7 percent and 15th in 2025. At Jacksonville in Week 5 it had one in 59 plays, a 62 yard pass, and its longest run went 6 yards. The Week 5 injury report listed Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith and Marquise Brown as Out; there is no Week 6 report yet. Carolina's defense is the average opponent this needs: it allows explosive plays on 8.6 percent of snaps, 11th, close to its 8.9 percent and 12th in 2025, and it gave up 59 points to Chicago in Week 1. If Philadelphia has two explosive plays by halftime, it is back near its 2025 rate; if it is grinding 12 play drives for field goals, the Panthers get the extra possessions their passing game wants.

Why it matters. Philadelphia's scoring slide tracks its big plays: six in Week 1, then four, five, two and one. An offense that cannot gain 20 yards in the air or 10 on the ground has to string together long drives, and the Eagles have converted 8 of 36 third downs across the losing streak. Carolina's defense is neither a wall nor a sieve on this measure, so whatever the Eagles do here is a fair read of their offense, not of the opponent. The Week 5 report names three of the players most tied to explosive plays as Out; that is a dated fact, and the Week 6 report will say whether it still applies.
Carolina had 2025's worst third down defense. Philadelphia is 8 of 36 lately.
What to watchThe Panthers allowed 100 conversions on 208 third downs in 2025, 48.1 percent, the worst rate in the league. Four games into 2026 they allow 23 of 54, 42.6 percent, 20th, and Chicago converted 10 of 14 in Week 1. Philadelphia's offense went 17 of 32 on third down in its two wins and 8 of 36 across the three losses, including 0 for 12 against the Rams in Week 4; it converts 36.8 percent for the season, 25th, after 38.2 percent and 21st in 2025. The other side is closer: Carolina converts 38.0 percent, 20th, against an Eagles defense that allows 39.7 percent, 15th. If the Eagles convert two of their first three third downs, the Panthers' 2025 number is still alive; if Carolina gets them off the field twice in the first quarter, Young gets the ball back with the losing streak's offense on the sideline.

Why it matters. Without explosive plays, the Eagles move the ball on third down or not at all, and their third down offense has fallen apart across the losing streak, 8 of 36 after 17 of 32 in the two wins. Carolina is the defense that gave up more third down conversions per try than anyone in 2025, and its 2026 rate is better but still in the bottom half. That makes the first few third downs the cleanest early read on whether Sirianni's streak record survives: conversions keep Young on the sideline, stops hand the ball to the league's yards per game leader.
