Game recap
Rams @ Eagles
2026 Wk 4 · PHI 20, LA 24
The Rams stuffed a fourth-and-2 at their own 2, then went 98 and 79 yards for two late touchdowns.
Down 20-10 with 7:26 left, the Rams won. Since 1999, teams down 10 in the last eight minutes won 3.2% of the time.
RarePhiladelphia led 20-10 at halftime, and nobody scored again until 4:02 of the fourth quarter. The Rams took over at their own 2 with 7:26 to play, scored on a Kyren Williams 1 yard run at 4:02, got the ball back at their 21 with 2:55 left, and scored again on a 7 yard Williams run with 1:17 to go. Since 1999, a team that trailed by 10 or more at some point in the final eight minutes of a regular-season game won 145 times in 4,476 tries. Sean McVay's Rams have now done it 3 times in 36 such games. The franchise has 7 of these wins since 1999, and three belong to McVay.

Why it matters. A 10-point deficit with under eight minutes left needs two scoring drives plus a defensive stop in between, and the trailing team rarely gets all three. The Rams got the stop first: Philadelphia's fourth-and-2 throw from the LA 2 fell incomplete at 7:31, which kept the margin at 10 and handed the ball over at the Rams' own 2. Two touchdown drives later, the Eagles had one possession and 70 seconds. One win in roughly 31 tries is the base rate for that spot.
Philadelphia went 0 for 12 on third down. All 19 teams to go 0 for 12 or worse since 1999 lost.
AnomalyThe Eagles never moved the chains on a third-down snap: 0 of 2 in the first quarter, 0 of 4 in the second, 0 of 3 in the third, 0 of 3 in the fourth. The Rams converted 8 of 16. Philadelphia also went 1 of 4 on fourth down, and the misses included a stuffed quarterback sneak at its own 38 late in the third quarter and an incompletion on fourth-and-2 from the LA 2. Since 1999, 19 teams have been held without a conversion on 12 or more third downs. Every one of them lost, and Philadelphia's 20 points tie the 2005 Texans and 2010 Bears for the most any of them scored.

Why it matters. Third down is where an offense earns extra possessions, and an offense that never converts hands the ball back after every series that reaches it. Philadelphia scored 20 anyway because most of its points came on short fields, but once the Rams stopped giving those away in the second half, the Eagles had no way to sustain a drive. The cohort is unanimous: 19 teams, 19 losses.
A fourth-and-2 stop at the Rams' 2, then touchdown drives of 98 and 79 yards
TrendPhiladelphia's last good chance to put the game away came at 7:31: fourth-and-2 at the LA 2, up 20-10, and Jalen Hurts threw incomplete for Darius Cooper. Matthew Stafford then went 98 yards in 10 plays, with completions of 20 yards to Tyler Higbee and 32 yards to Puka Nacua, and Williams scored from the 1 at 4:02. The Rams' next kick went out of bounds and gave the Eagles the ball at their own 40, but they gained 6 yards and punted. Stafford's second drive started at the LA 21 with 2:55 left and ended with Williams' 7 yard run at 1:17. Byron Young then sacked Hurts twice in the final 65 seconds.

Why it matters. The game turned on two short-yardage plays the Eagles did not convert. A touchdown on fourth-and-2 makes it 27-10 with seven minutes left, which all but ends the game; a field goal there makes it 23-10 and a two-score game. Taking the points off the board and pinning the Rams at their 2 should have favored Philadelphia, and it did, until Los Angeles went the length of the field. One first down on the drive that started at the PHI 40 would have run most of the clock.
Philadelphia scored 20 in the first half and 0 after it, gaining 72 yards on 28 second-half plays
SplitSeventeen of the Eagles' 20 points came on three drives that started in Rams territory: a field goal after Andrew Mukuba's interception return to the LA 28, a touchdown after Britain Covey's 41 yard punt return to the LA 17, and a touchdown with 9 seconds left in the half after Cooper DeJean's interception return to the LA 35. Saquon Barkley did not appear in a play after the first quarter, finishing with 2 carries. In the second half the short fields stopped, and Philadelphia's offense fell to -0.572 EPA per play with 4 first downs. The Rams went the other way, from -0.101 to +0.175.

Why it matters. The first-half lead was built by the defense and special teams more than the offense, which had 100 yards on 30 plays. That kind of lead is fragile, because it depends on the opponent continuing to give up field position. The Rams committed no turnovers after halftime, and Philadelphia's offense, already without Barkley, had to drive the length of the field and could not.
Kyren Williams: 10 catches and 2 rushing touchdowns. The only other Ram to do it since 1999 was Todd Gurley, also against Philadelphia.
RareWilliams carried 16 times for 80 yards, caught 10 of 13 targets for 67 yards, and scored both fourth-quarter touchdowns. Since 1999, a player has had 10 or more receptions and 2 or more rushing touchdowns in the same regular-season game 11 times. Gurley's came in Week 15 of 2018, a 30-23 Rams loss to the Eagles.

Why it matters. Williams was the Rams' outlet when Philadelphia took away the deep ball: three of his catches came on the 98 yard drive, including the 7 yard reception that set up first-and-goal at the 1. Ten catches for a running back usually means a team is throwing short because it is behind, and the Rams were behind for most of the game. Turning that volume into the two goal-line scores is what puts him on this short list.
Stafford threw for 317 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions, and won. Ten passers since 1999 have done that, Hurts included.
ComparisonStafford finished 32 of 51 for 317 yards. Both interceptions set up Philadelphia points: Mukuba's in the first quarter and DeJean's with 34 seconds left in the half. Since 1999, a passer has thrown for 300 or more yards with no touchdown passes and at least two interceptions in 59 regular-season games, and his team won 10 of them. This is Stafford's only such game in the database. Jalen Hurts, on the other sideline, is on the list too, from a 2022 win at Chicago.

Why it matters. Yards without touchdowns usually mean drives that stall short of the end zone, and two interceptions on top of that usually mean a loss, which is why 49 of the 59 teams lost. Stafford's line hides where the yards went: the Rams' three touchdowns were all runs, two by Williams and one by Nacua, and the passing game supplied the field position. Hurts threw two touchdowns on 93 yards, the opposite shape, and lost.
Sean McVay's first win over Nick Sirianni's Eagles, after four losses including the 2024 Divisional round
MilestoneMcVay is now 2-6 against Philadelphia, counting one playoff game. His only other win, 37-19 in 2020, came against Doug Pederson. Since Sirianni arrived, the Eagles had won the four previous meetings, including a 28-22 Divisional round game in Philadelphia in January 2025 and a 33-26 win here in Week 3 of last season.

Why it matters. Philadelphia had become one of the few opponents McVay could not solve, with six losses in seven tries before Sunday, and the last two of those came in Philadelphia. This win does not change the record much, but it ends a four-game run against the current Eagles staff that included the game that ended the Rams' 2024 season.
